Then as groups, each explain which vocabulary words you highlighted and justify why you've identified those particular words (15 mins). This activity also asks your group to brainstorm synonyms, connotations, and association for your word choices that you believe are intended by the author; write these synonyms next to the words on your sheet of paper.

Jan. 23, Tues. - SWBAT begin their multi-genre portfolio assignment by identifying their topic and a message related to that topic. 11-12.W.1.

Activity 15 (p.58): Begin Multi-Genre Portfolio - Read the assignment description, including Putting Together the Multi-Genre Portfolio and Writing the Introduction. Then you will need to come up with a message that relates to your topic. This graphic organizer will be due Jan. 25 (at the end of class).
HW: Read through Activity 16 (p.62) and finish Activity 15.
Jan. 24, Wed. - SWBAT compose a draft for their portfolio's genre pieces. 11-12.W.3.
