In this unit you will learn to plan for college or a career after high school graduation. This module asks you to generate a portfolio (different from your final reflection portfolio due at the end of the school year) that documents your research and findings about potential paths after high school and write a final personal application letter for college or a letter of introduction to a work community. Your portfolio must be turned in a folder in this order:
A final letter of introduction to a potential employer, a personal application essay for college, or an essay discussing if college is necessary. Must follow word count, be typed, proofread, and ready to send out to either a school or employer.
Three pieces of writing that contributed the most to your understanding of what to write about in the final letter/essay
A personal FAQ with at least 10 entries (Q's and A's)
Portfolio (due Sept. 1) will include:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in which you provide answers to ten important questions regarding your application for a school or career opportunity along with the answers.
ONE of the following three prompts:
Letter of introduction for work (1,000 words): If you believe you are more inclined to pursue a career or enter the work force, write a “letter of introduction” to the work community or job that you wish to pursue. Limit response to one page in length, single spaced.
Is College Necessary? (1,000 words): Write a well-structured essay in which you argue for or against going to college straight out of high school. Include quotations from AT LEAST FOUR of the articles we have read in class, as well as your personal experience to support your argument. The best essays will provide counter-arguments and refutation. In your conclusion, discuss your decision to attend college or join the work force. Elaborate on your plans for the future. Your essay must be typed and formatted according to MLA guidelines and edited for unnecessary words.
Personal application essay for college : Common Application Essay (limit response to maximum of 350 words)
